How To: Spend a day in Patonga

One thing we’re looking forward to in this New Year are days spent by the water.

Nestled on the North bank of the Hawkesbury River, you’ll find the charming fishing village of Patonga. Located a 10 minute water taxi or 30 minute ferry trip from Palm Beach in Sydney, it’s a short trip for a seaside escape. For those travelling by car, the village is an easy 90-minute drive from Sydney CBD or Newcastle.

Arrive early for a morning coffee and breakfast at The Fish + Chip Shop, which is open daily from 7am, before heading off to explore some of the local walking tracks that offer beautiful views of the Hawkesbury River stretching North to the Central Coast and back towards Palm Beach.

When you’re wanting to cool off, Patonga Creek is a quiet swimming spot with calm waters idyllic for children and families, and water activities such as fishing and kayaking.

By the time lunch rolls around, The Patonga Hotel becomes a bustle of laughter, chatter and clinking glasses as day trippers alike enjoy a spread of modern Australian seafood under the pines on the front deck.

The Beer Battered Fish + Chips and Boathouse Trout Board are popular choices among those on offer. You can view the full menu on our website here.

For those spending a day on the boat, the Hotel also offers pickup catering which can be pre-ordered the day before and collected from reception!

Stick around for Happy Hour and the evening meal specials before heading back on a water taxi to Palm Beach. However, if you’re not quite ready to leave, the Hotel offers accommodation with three waterside apartments above the Hotel and a four bedroom cottage next door.
